In order to
permit a highly secure launching of radio sondes during
strong winds or storms, launching aids (unwinders) have
been designed. 30 metres of perion thread are wound on
the device (standard). At the moment of launching, the
sonde is already below the balloon. The weight of the
sonde causes the unwinding, which is kept slow by a
brake so that the ascent of the balloon occurs
considerably faster than the unwinding process. This
device has been used successfully in stormy weather for
several years by the German Weather Service and by
weather services in other countries. At the moment of
launching, wich is kept slow by a brake so that the
ascent of the balloon.
It is also used to hold the distance of 60 m between the
GPS - radiosonde and the balloon. |
